Before getting into the travel business, Kiki was a passionate adventure traveler climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, trekking the Himalayas and Inca Trail, rafting the Zambezi, Futaleufu and Ganges rivers, riding horses and camels in Mongolia, horses in Uruguay, bungee jumping in Zambia, photographing polar bears in the Arctic, tigers in India, the big cats throughout Africa, gorillas in Uganda, and flowers in the world’s highest altitude wildflower valley. She has camped and roughed it with the best but always ended her adventures in luxury properties.
Crossing the street one day in Manhattan, Kiki was hit by a car, suffered a broken neck, had a titanium rod inserted, spent 3 months with a 7lb. halo screwed into her skull, followed by a year in physical therapy. Undergoing such a traumatic experience, she was determined to move closer to the great outdoors and live phase II of her life following her passions for adventure travel and photography.
After years of launching, turning around and re-branding troubled magazines, she had the wonderful opportunity of joining forces with a former colleague in the adventure travel representation business. Five years later after helping build North American business for numerous cool suppliers such as Shamwari Group, Elewana Collection, Cheli & Peacock, Jacaranda Tours, African Profile Safaris, Royal Expeditions, Dharma Adventures, Australis, Delfin, Iceland ProCruises, and others, Kiki is excited to launch The Wanderlust Portfolio where she can utilize her marketing experience, talents and passion for global adventure travel to inspire more people to explore the world.
During her magazine career, her successes include revamping editorial, circulation, sales and marketing for Business Atlanta, developing new business categories for Advertising Age and The Leadership Network, helping launch one of the most successful business magazines, Business 2.0, and creating moneymaking strategies to reposition healthy lifestyle magazines for AMI and Martha Stewart Omnimedia. She has the intuitive ability to evaluate brands and see a unique angle that ties into consumer trends and emerging markets. With her creative writing skills and storytelling abilities she can construct an effective brand strategy including content, design, marketing programs, events and presentation materials designed to resonate with buyers and consumers.
One day when she’s not busy, Kiki intends to publish her collection of travel essays and photography for her book, Woman Who Fell From Camel: Tales of Wanderlust and Global Misadventures. Kiki is currently the Corporate Membership Director for APTA, Association for the Promotion of Tourism to Africa, and belongs to ATTA, Adventure Travel Trade Association.
